NILAMBUR-Canolly's plot.
One of the tourist destinations in north kerala. it is world famous for its teak plantations. these were planted by the british, when they are ruling india. nilambur have the world's first teak plantations in world, known as Canolly's plot- named after the name of malabar collector at that time. nilambur had its own natural teak forests. it was used by british for making ships. it was calculated that around 850 fully grown teak trees were needed to make a single war ship at that time. so natural forests of nilambur started disappearing in a short span of time. british government decided to plant teak plants in all the areas were the forests are destroyed, for their future use. they made a railway line connecting nilambur to shoranur which is still used and a beautiful railway line to travel.
part of canolly's plot is still preserved by the forest department of kerala. This was planted in 1846. there is a beautiful hanging brige across river chaliyar to connect to the canolly's plot.

Nedumkayam is 12 kilometres away from Nilambur. He made two bridges of cast iron there, which is still used after many decades. He used to jump into the river from this bridge. one day he drowned in the same river which he loved the most. he was burried near the river itself and a monument is still preserved there. after that many people died at the same place with crystal clear water.
